Early Childhood Development through Play

Evidence has shown us that a person’s entire life; their physical wellbeing, emotional stability and accomplishments have roots deeply embedded in early childhood development.

The environment and developmental stimulation we provide for our children has a direct impact on the way their brain structure develops.

Positive environments, where children are encouraged to play, explore, and experience new things provide the ideal learning experience for early childhood development and the best chances for success in schooling and later life.

Early Childhood Development using Play

Play represents an important aspect of a child’s physical, social, and intellectual development.

When playing, children learn to take turns and share. They begin to understand feelings by acting out situations and emotions. Additionally, play teaches children to listen, follow and give instructions.

There are several types of play that can be used to help your child’s development, including:

Active play

It’s important for children to be active so that they develop their muscle groups and overall physical strength.

Imaginative Play

Creating scenarios and re-enacting experiences helps to develop their imagination. It also encourages children to interpret and understand certain emotions and reactions in their own way.

Creative Play

Creative play provides a space where children can create new things.

It’s a fun and exciting way of showing children how things work, i.e. cutting with scissors, gluing pictures, folding paper. All of which help develop a child’s coordination and their ability to complete tasks.

Social Play

Social play is especially important in early childhood development.

While socialising, children learn how to cooperate, share, and communicate emotions which helps them to understand different emotions and reactions, it also encourages companionship.

Mental Play

This form of play develops cognitive processes. Mental play involves exploring, discovering, seeing new things, touching, tasting, using words and numbers.
